Crandall Illinois- Norfolk Southern - T P & W Connection/Crossing
Updated June 17th, 2008
Would you ever believe me that there actually used to be a town out here? If you ever pick up the book The Peoria Way by Robert P. Olmsted, Joe McMillan, It talks about Crandall junction and has a few old pictures of what used to be of the town.
This is what Crandall looks like today, nothing but a junction about 2 miles from Morton Il. Back then it was a main junction for the Santa Fe and Conrail. Now its just a junction for the T P & W and the Norfolk Southern. The TP&W uses a section of the old Santa Fe Toluca to Pekin line that went through Morton, and even Washington Illinois at one time. The T P & W travels to this junction by using a trackage right over the NS from Farmdale IL to Crandall, and then from Crandall, the Tip-Up goes to Morton to switch a few industries.
