The FRA report mistakenly says that UP still owns the crossing, instead of DGNO.

This crossing marks the southern end of the active portion of this line. To the north, the line is still active through McKinney, Melissa, Anna, and Van Alstyne to Sherman. To the south, the line is defunct as it goes through Fairview, Allen, and north Plano and there are several places where the track is cut or impassible (such as the bridge that was removed over Hwy. 5 / Greenville Ave.). Then in Plano the track becomes active again as the DART Red Line to Dallas. The spur track (seen in photo #17) south of the crossing does not appear to get much use. The main reason this crossing is still open is so train crews have room to pull south and shove into the spur (seen in photo #19) just north of the crossing which still has freight customers.

Here's a view of the eastbound signals taken in the year 2000. This is back in the pre-DART days, when this was still the UP main line from Sherman to Dallas.
Updated photos from 2009. These are overall views facing east. A severe thunderstorm was located over Fairview and Allen, just to the southeast of where these photos were taken (you can see the rain shaft in photos 4 & 5). The storm was moving SE though, so it never rained where I was at - just lots of thunder & lightning, and some strong outflow winds.

The eastbound cantilever signal. Notice how the background discs on the cantilever lights are so faded, they almost look yellow. There are also no rear lights on the cantilever mast.
The cantilever is a Griswold.
12"x20" incandescent lights from Federal Signal, mounted on a WRRS bracket.
A WCH gate mechanism is mounted on a separate pole behind the cantilever signal.

Overall view looking west.
Front and back sides of the westbound cantilever signal. Notice the exposed wiring to the cantilever lights.
The westbound median signal, which has some newer-looking 12"24" lights.
The back side of the eastbound cantilever signal looks rather pathetic with mismatched lights, backgrounds, and brackets.
