Yet more videos from Patrick's collection!
Three videos of the crossings in purple have not yet seen on the website.
Disc #1
Century (1) - A Metro Blue Line train crosses the crossing in Compton, CA. The main cantilever has a Safetran electronic bell! |
Century (2) - Same crossing, except this video is underneath the cantilever with the Safetran e-bell. |
1000 (1) - A Metrolink train goes through the 1000 trails crossing at twilight hours of the day. |
1000 (2) - A UP goes through during the daytime hours. A pretty long video here. |
Crown (1) - An UP train comes up to the crossing, activating the signals, and then stops just short of the crossing, making the signals time out. |
Crown (2) - Patrick talks to a flagman at the crossing, and said before that there was a broken gate, and wanted him to check it out. The flagman actually prevents traffic from crossing while the signals are inactive, creating some interesting words of exchange between the flagman and a van. BAD MOVE UP!!! The train is abandoned just shortly after the train moves so that it could be caught at the 1000 (2) video. |
Aliso (1) - The same UP train from the Crown (2), and 1000 (2) videos crosses here. Again the video is cut short to make sure Patrick got ahead in time to get it at the 1000 Trails crossing. |
Aliso (2) - A quick Metrolink heading Northbound. |
Sierra #1- A quick Metrolink Train heading North to Lancaster. |
Barrel (1) - This is the Metrolink from the 1000 (1) crossing. Two trains are stuck together as one in this video. |
Barrel (2) - Another Metrolink heading Southbound. |
Ave. S (1) - A Northbound Metrolink with a really quiet horn crosses in the evening. |
Ave. S (2) - The last Metrolink train heading Southbound crosses for the day. |
Ave. S (3) - Same scenario as video 2, but different day. |
Ave. R (1) - An evening Metrolink video from the UP side. The Metrolink signal got a new WCH mechanical bell from a dead Safetran mechanical bell. |
Ave. R (2) - A Metrolink train crosses from the Metrolink side of the crossing. |
Palmdale - The same double train from the Barrel (1) video crosses here. Before the UP gate rises on the shoulder signal, that and the UP median signal have a malfunction: The lights freeze up for about 2 seconds before turning off! The Metrolink signals worked perfectly! |
Sierra #2- A Metrolink crosses the crossing, then 17 seconds later, a UP crosses, going in the same direction as the Metrolink train. The UP signal has had it's 12"x24" signal replaced with dual 12"x20" Harmon fading lights, with a WCH electronic bell added, although the electronic does not work. The UP shoulder signal's bell is dead and does not work. |
10th Ave. - A UP train stops next to the crossing for about 15 seconds, then proceeds across the crossing. |
8th Ave. - Same train as above, but with a few new cars being towed. This is the last video showing both signals with Teardrop bells before one was stolen or missing. |
Rancho - This video is cut, showing only the beginning and ending of the duration of the crossing. |
Ave. J - A sunset view of the last Metrolink train crossing, and into the Metrolink storage area at the end of the line. |
Ave. G - The train from the 8th and 10th Ave. crossings above crosses here. This is the crossing that when activates, the gates lower immediately instead of waiting 5 seconds! |
Ave. A (1) - A long train, featuring very rare Harmon crossing gates! |
Ave. A (2) - Same crossing, but in the night time hours with a different train. |
County - A crossing originally found by Bill Steck. Patrick goes here and gets a good video of the crossing in action. This is a night video. |
Arroyo - Another crossing originally found by Bill Steck. The second half of the train at night is shown here. |
Cemetary - Another night video of the second half of the crossing in action. |
45th Ave. (1)- From the North side of the crossing, the train takes a while to cross, afterwards, the signals begin again for about a 10 second malfunction. |
45th Ave. (2)- Another train from the South side of the crossing. UP crews were here, including another flagman for some odd reason... |
California- Another video from the California Ave. crossing in Beaumont, CA. A very short UP train crosses here. |
Disc #2
Palm - The first video of the crossing with it's upgraded look from 8" signals. A BNSF slowly goes across, then near the end, another BNSF goes through heading the same way, creating a over 10 minute video! |
Swarthout #1 (1)- A slow BNSF moves across the crossing. The signal in this video is malfunctioning, and you'll get to see it first hand! Shortly after the BNSF crosses, a UP comes by heading the opposite way! The video is over 11 minutes! |
Swarthout #1 (2)- Another BNSF heads across the crossing. The signal shown still malfunctions. Another long video! |
Private- A BNSF approaches, and has two ways to go, both ways across private crossings without signals. It goes right, across one of the private crossings with STOP signs and private crossings signs. |
1st St. (1) - One of the few 8" crossings that BNSF has left alone. A pretty good video here. |
1st St. (2) - Another video from the opposite side of the crossing. |
Signal Collection - A 19 minute montage of Patrick's signal collection in action, including all 12 of Patrick's working crossing bells!

REVIEWS
Mike: The first 2 Compton, CA videos were unexpected, but cool, especially with the Safetran electronic bell. My favorites are 8th Street East, and Avenue G. 8 out of 10 for this one.
