Back during one of my train trips to the Carson area in 1990, I went to a huge swap meet in Huntington Beach, CA and found a plate to a pedestrian signal. They had both the DON'T & WALK and the hand/person types in stock. They were only about $20 so I got one. Of course there wasn't any electronics on it, but my grandfather thought of something. Take a look below.

He built a box, and divided it in half, stuck two light sockets (the C7 type) and contolled them to a switch. The lights used are either C7 christmas type bulbs or standard white/blue/pink lights found just about anywhere.

Any color bulbs can be used. Here are few examples.

Sorry for the poor color output from my camera, but the left picture has a orange bulb in it. Those are becoming popular here, and are still found in parts of Prescott. Some of the new LED lights are orange too. The white walk symbol is pretty much the standard anymore. Note the bulbs don't fit the entire image. That is one flaw with this method unfortunately due to the frames not having mirrors inside. I may work on some replacing the bulbs later on with LEDs later on.

These are both red bulbs, also very common to be found. You can tell a slight difference between the two colors. The one on the left has the color painted on it solid so you can't see through the bulb. The one on the right does. One way you can tell is the diamond like image that shows. The clear bulbs show it better than the solid bulbs. On the plus side, the clear bulbs are brighter...

Now for some unusual lighting. The white hand shown on the left isn't entirely fake. There used to be green "WALK" indicators, but have since disappeared. I haven't seen a green walking man though. Although one traffic light in the Prescott area had the word WALK light up in green, but was replaced in 2004.

Now for some blue lighting. The one on the far left has a solid light while the center one is clear. The right one is a little different. It isn't white. At some grocery stores, you can find some light blue and light pink bulbs. The right image is lit by a light blue light.

This one is the pink light. Kind of looks orange. You can also put in a blinking orange or red light so simulate a flashing hand.

I've had this for 20 years, but rarely use it. I don't have any intentions of selling it, but I'm not letting it go.
