It's hot and about to get hotter

Although Bakersfield doesn't get it's name from its baking heat of summer, it is about to really start "baking" here. Supposed to warm to 107 by friday next week.

It's a little bit above normal for Central Arizona, but not as much as in the Northeast... I thought Maine was never supposed to get above 80? Guess not...

Its gonna get hot too in Hanford but not that hot. Forecast says its supposed to get up to 102 through Friday.

About 70 percent of summer it gets cool enough just before dawn to open the house up and turn on the big whole house exhaust fan. That takes about 3 hours a day of A/C off the meter. That fan paid for itself the first summer.

You know you're in for it when it's 85 degrees at 8:30 AM.

And 90° by 10 AM here... Even the lows aren't cooling off much anymore.

Days like today I clean both of the A/C return filters and hose off the condenser coils. Every little bit helps.

We finally got some heavy rain Today. Cooled us down a little bit too.

Yeah, that heat wave was brutal in the NE. Heat indexes and even temperatures managed to get into the 100s. In the NE, a heat wave is defined as 3 or more consecutive days of 90 degree weather. We had 5 straight days of temps at or above 90 degrees. It won't be that much better this coming week as temps will again hover around the 90 degree mark with lots of humidity which will puch heat indicies well into the 90s. It's 88 outside right now, but there's no real humidity, so it's not so bad.

I was stationed in Florida for several years - I know all about the humidity issue. 85 degrees sounds fairly mild until you make it 100 percent humidity. Yuck.

You just sit there and sweat. Towels don't get dry between uses, cockroaches are the size of mice, etc.
