This signal protects traffic coming out of a mall. The no turn on red restriction is there because in order to make a right turn, you must turn across the tracks. |
Here is one of the few 12"x20" signals. This one protects the entrance and exit to an apartment complex and a motel. |

The sidewalk to the transit center has its own set of signals. |
As you can see in picture 1, the tracks curve to the right to the station at the crossing here. Because of this, there is no reason for southbound traffic to stop for a train as they run down the middle of the street.
