The crossing is owned by MBTA with CSX having trackage rights.
Here's a crossing that likely used to be 8" gateless when CSX owned the tracks, but now that MBTA owns it, they upgraded them to 8" Safetran incandescen gated cantilevers with at the time had 2 Safetran mechanical bells, but the bells are now WCH electronic bells. The cantilevers are the Safetran 1990s style setup. |

When the crossing had Safetran mechanicals, they rang from startup to when the gates fully lowered, then started again when the gates rose to deactivation. Later on, the bells went from activation to deactivation, and were probably worn out, so the WCH e-bells were brought in, and also ring from activation to deactivation.
I'm not sure why this was done, but the rear lights are on brackets on the gate mast, instead of being installed directly on them. Take a look at pictures 4 and 11. The gate mast in picture 4 has a crossbuck. Picture 11 does not. |
