This is quite weird here. Not too long ago, the road was being widened to fix 6 lanes that were kind of narrow, and also to add a median. The older look to this crossing was 2 12"x24" cantilevers with no gates.

The road was partly closed from 6 lanes down to 3, however they forgot one thing, the Indiana State Fair! There's parking around here, and the this train brings people to the fair, and then back to their cars. The newer signals you see above were rushed in time for the fair to open.

There are now traffic lights being added for when the construction is done. The ones not activated are bagged and are in black. All the new lights are still 12"x24", but all lights now have L.E.Ds.

Also, if you look at picture 6, this crossing has a mechanical bell. Pretty cool.

Even though it looks close, pictures 7 and 8 are not the same. Each signal flashes different. The other signal on the opposite side of the tracks flashes faster than the cantilever you see in front. Also notice on the opposite signal that the lights flash on the wrong sides (left/right).

This is why I knew what type of signals used to exist here. No sign of the masts though... The FRA still says these signals are still existent at this crossing with no gates.

Look at picture 15 at the bell. For one, it's a little rusted, and note the "attachment" added to the bottom of the bell. This is to allow the bell to be mounted on wider posts. Take a good look at picture 17...

Picture 18 shows in better detail. What you see in front are brand new mast signals. There aren't any crossbucks or even any backgrounds yet. All LED lights are wrapped in bubble wrap. Picture 19 shows what's underneath the bubble wrap. These signals will get installed when the median gets put in.

One more thing. Look at the W sign on picture 20. For those of you who don't know what it means, it tells the engineer that there's a railroad crossing coming ahead and to blow their "W"histle. The crossing that the W is referring to is a pedestrian crossing that will come soon.

Pictures 1-20 were taken sometime in 2003 or 2004.

Here's the finished product of the crossing, unlike what I thought before, the median signals do have gates. Picture 22 shows the lights belonging to Progress Rail Services, located at http://www.progressrail.com.

Also weird is the street name painted on the ladder of the cantilever, instead of using a DOT plaque. The gates belong to Safetran.

More views of this crossing that barely gets any usage. Makes me wonder if all this was really needed at a crossing like this...
