Total Accidents:   4

Crossing DOT #:  538959V

I went looking on the FRA recently, and the lastest report from March 14, 2006 says that the crossing is now defunct.

Next to the railroad crossing protected by traffic lights, this one is just plain freaky. The city of Anderson was ordered to put up signals for this crossing. The weird thing is that, they went on their own and put up 12" traffic light lenses up instead. It looks like there's half a crossbuck on picture 4???

I don't know how the traffic lights work. I was told somewhat, but not enough for me to understand it, and report it here.

There are a few missing visors on these lights though. Picture 6 shows a very faded crossbuck. The logo shown in picture 7 says "EAGLE SIGNAL" because of the 12" traffic lights. Doesn't the mast in picture 8 look like a traffic light mast?

Picture 9 shows the overall view of these strange signals. Picture 12 shows the ID number.

There's more to this than the weird lights. These signals were NOT run by relay. The tracks are fenced off right at the crossing, and when a train wants to cross, a security guard opens them, and flips a switch, activating the signals. Pictures 10 and 11 show more on these techniques.

From what I got in his email, wisecrack has a friend of the CSX who told him that the crossing is not getting any activity because of recent layoffs at this plant, which is actually a GM plant, which closed when the economy went sour.
