Believe it or not, this is the only grade crossing in the whole Palm Springs area. There are other crossings, but they're all over/underpasses.

The lastest FRA report from 1989 says that only 2 gateless exist. Well, over 15 years of non-updating by SP/UP, the crossing has indeed changed.

The crossing has 12"x20" front lights with clear L.E.Ds, and the rear lights have 12"x24" red L.E.D. lights. There is one General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, and a WCH Type 2 electronic bell. (Seems ironic that these bells are suddenly being paired together at a few crossings?)

Here's a look at the 12"x24" red L.E.D. lights.

I was actually here on August 6, escaping the rains, and I saw the crossing in action then, and also leading to August 7, the signals work fine, except for one thing... The WCH Type 2 electronic bell, only occasionally rings. The General Signals Type 1 electronic bell works as it should. You'll have to hear it to know what I mean.

Upon coming back on August 18, 2005 the bell has NOT been fixed yet. The crossing still works the same way.

Note: Google Street View shows that the front 12"x20" frames with WCH clear LEDs on both signals have been replaced with 12"x24" frames with Harmon fading LEDs. Also, the malfunctioning WCH electronic has been replaced with a GS bell.
