Under all the graffiti is the word EXEMPT, followed by the CPUC crossing number. |
Hard to see? |
This is old. The crossbuck's lettering is falling off. |
Another view. |

More pictures. I wonder if the line is abandoned even though the FRA says 2 daily trains? It does say EXEMPT on both sides of the crossing. I haven't seen these signals work when I lived here until 1987.
The gated signals are Safetran signals that have a Griswold "look" to them. |

Note: This crossing is 2.9 Miles East of the Del Amo Blvd. #2 crossing in Compton, CA.
Upon further investigations on Google Earth, and Microsoft Virtual Earth, the tracks split from the main line about 1 mile North of here at the Market/Candelwood double crossing. The main line heads SouthWest towards the Carson St. #2 crossing in Carson, CA, while this one crosses here.
The tracks seem to be in fair to good shape, until they get past the Carson St. crossing about 1 mile South of here, then they degrade quite rapidly and dead end near the Cover St. crossing. I wouldn't be surprised if this crossing and this part of the rail line are really defunct.
