This crossing has gone defunct recently. As you can see, the grades are gone, and the street is closed. What's left of the signals is what you see in these pictures. The lights used to be 12"x24" with LEDs. Those, along with the Aurora clear LED gate lights have been removed. The signals don't have any power running to them, and that's why the gates are down. The gates being down has nothing to do with a train nearby.

From what I could gather, the street is closed temporarilly so that an overpass can be built for the street, over the UP/Amtrak tracks, and possibly over Indio Blvd (SR 111 and 86). Once that happens, Dillon Rd. will reopen again. The reasoning behind the grade seperation isn't known to me, but since it doesn't seem that dangerous to me, tells me that this is a waste of manpower and money.
