I really don't remember much of this day, because I was in school when this train was set to go, and my grandfather took the pictures on this page. It turns out that after 14 years of inactivity, this engine, #18 was being put back into service since 1974. These clips were taken in 1989 when the train started from Phoenix (where it was revitalized) to Williams to start out a new life.

The train parked at Wickenburg to rest for the rest of the travel the next day.

Since this was such a rare opportunity, people watched the train go by. Unfortunately, I was in school, and my parents wouldn't let me take the day off from school to attend this.

Here are the shots of the signals on 5/18/2000.

Here is a old picture of this signal back in 1989. Just like in the Apache picture, I am in this shot, along with the white gates. Although the lights in the front were 12"x20", the rear view signals had 8".

Here are some shots in 1987 with these signals in action. Notice in the above paragraph that I made a mention of the rear view lights being of the 8" type. Also notice that this picture is old because they are using cabooses in this crossing! Also notice the crooked crossbuck. This stayed that way for a very long time; this was straightened out when the signals got their 12"x20" upgrade. Plus the above signal looked like the gate did not fully lower.

Look in Picture 18 how the background on the 12"x24" lights are wider than the discs on the 12"x20" lights.

Action shots since 1989! I was heading back home, back on Hwy 89 between Wickenburg and Congress, when I saw the train going the opposite way. I rushed back to this crossing, got about 10 minutes ahead, and got these action shots. I was very uncomfortable here. A few minutes before the train came, a stupid teenager ruined the video by "blblblblblblblbl" like thing. That really got me angry. I stopped tape, and went again. When the signals started to activate, a van came up, stopped at the gates, then backed up! It did so I can get a better shot. It was nice, but wasn't really needed. Pictures 28-41 were taken December 28, 2003.

This crossing has had a weird history. Back during the late 80's the signal with the short gate went without a crossbuck for a long time. I think it was the time frame between 1990-1993 when it happened. It finally got one when I left Wickenburg on May 20, 1993.
