Notes: The crossing became a quiet zone on March 1, 2010.
Sometime in 2010 or 2011, the road's former name of Enterprise Rd. was changed due to a new roadway connecting with this crossing.

These video screenshots were taken in 1997, my first time to Flagstaff. Ironically, I was not here for trains. I was shopping at a nearby mall when I saw the trains and decided to continue my video archives. This was the first video taken since 1994. I was a little rusty but I would get back into the swing of things in no time. |

A view of the crossing on August 12, 1999 when this it was involved in a accident that had the signals rebuilt. The signal on the right is the same, but has a new electronic bell, while the signal on the left has it's original bell, but has 12"x20" lights on it. |

A view of the crossing on October 30, 1999. The middle light on the gate on the left was hanging on wires, but is probably fixed by now. Again it was a bad time to be here because I got only 2 engines after it uncoupled over 100+ cars. Drat! |

The obvious finally happened. The final 8" lights that Flagstaff had were replaced by 12"x20" lights. However, they don't look new. They seem to be of an older Safetran type with the paint fading off of the backgrounds. |

What a mess!!! |
On June 17, 2002, the old crossing signals were ripped up, and the road was closed for 2 weeks as part of a huge $6,000,000 project ongoing until December. The work was to go through June 29, 2002, but a train derailed and pushed back the work for 2 days. On July 3, 2002, the road was reopened to something brand new and completely different...

Enterprise gets cantilevers! I expected this crossing to be new, but I didn't guess how big it would be... |

Instead of the old 4 pairs of lights on the last set of signals, this set has 16 pairs ! 8 pairs flash at once! This new system also has 6 new crossbucks as well. The e-bells are GS type 1. |

Pictures 41-51 show a train going through the new crossing. The signal in the left corner in picture 42 and 46 have lights in L.E.D. 4 pairs out of the 16 pairs are L.E.D. In the process of this construction something was lost. Under the old setup, the signal bells keep ringing when the gates go up, this system is designed to shut off the bells when the gates go up. |

The other side of the tracks. Picture 55 still carries the old 4-tracks sign left from the last installation. All of the other ones have newer ones. |

Check out the Harmon cantilever in pictures 56-57! It's huge! This is the first bridge cantilever I've ever seen! |

More active pictures. Picture 60: The closer signal has General Signals L.E.Ds, while the rear one has incandescents. Same for 61 and 62. The closest signal in 63 is also General Signals L.E.D, while the one further back has incandescents. |

BNSF employees were here on this day as well testing the installation. I kept on milepost detectors quite frequently when I was out here. Before the second train came by, I talked with one of the workers. It was interesting. He said this cost so much money, and I agree. I mean look at this crossing! It's massive! I estimate this cost around $300,000. The crossing system has 2 electronic bells, although they aren't very loud. |

On December 13, 2002, we find that all 16 pairs of lights now have General Signals LEDs inside of them. |

Long story with these 4 pictures. As I approached the crossing, I saw the gates going down, I decided to wait for the train to pass. Instead, I came across 2 trains that held up the intersection for about 10 minutes. I regret not having my camcorder up with me at the time. The L.E.D's in picture 75 are not all lit. A small number (5-10) are burned out.

The two median gates are now Aurora L.E.D. The only incandecent lights left at this crossing are the two shoulder gate lights.

2005:

|
Although pictures 98 and 99 don't show it, the median gates have changed again to 4" incandescents once again!!!
Although not pictured, a train headed East. It took about 2 minutes, then the signals went up. Nine seconds later, the signals started up again for a westbound train. That's why I mention not stopping the tape right away as said on my 101 page. The combined two trains took 6 minutes to cross in total.

2009:

On June 1, 2009, Andrew Plummer comes out and gets action shots of the crossing from the other side of the crossing. The only change that happened out here is that the cantilever signal seen to the right has had its gate lights changed from Aurora clear LEDs to RECO 4" LED. |
