A newer and older crossbuck protect this hardly used crossing just a few feet away from the Luke Ln. crossing.

Nothing's changed shice I was last here the last 2 1/2 years ago. There's still a Santa Fe post shown on picture 12 located here, when the ATSF used to have a railline through here, before the Verde Canyon Railroad bought the tracks sometime in the 1970s.

For some reason, the two-piece crossbucks just seem retro to me. While I do like the one-piece signs, the two piece reminds me of some older crossings that I saw early on in my childhood.

If you look at maps around Arizona, such as mapquest, you'll see that the tracks go on for about a mile before dead-ending, and there are another 2 crossings with crossbucks according to the FRA.

Well, I don't know when this happened, but the tracks only go about 1/4 mile east of the Broadway crossing. These tracks continue to the left of picture 5. I checked the two crossings that the FRA said that existed, and I could see some partial rails, and where the tracks used to be, but because of this bridge, that's why the tracks stop right before Bitter Creek. The extra 3/4 mile of track is abandoned, although there are some rails left by the old right of way, although they are in place.

Picture 20 shows some running water in Bitter Creek due to recent rainfall in the area.

The only that's changed is the way the Santa Fe crossbuck is setup. I personally hate this method, and prefer the 90 degree angles better.
