This county highway is about two miles south of Ash Fork. There is one crossing running through here. It is paved up to the crossing, but turns into a very poorly maintained dirt road after you cross the tracks.

These first two pictures were taken on March 23, 1998. This crossing sits in the middle of nowhere.
Both signals have 12"x20" Safetran incandescent lights with 7" gate lights and two GS type 1 electronic bells. |

Signal shots as of 4/14/2001. The bells have been replaced since the last 3 years I've been here. |

Those are solar panels next to the signal. This must be required, because hardly anything except a church (I think) is around here. This was also here on March 23, 1998 but never photographed. |

Other than the 7" gate lights being replaced by Aurora L.E.D. lights, nothing's changed. |

2/7/2006 Update:
I originally went out to the Double A Ranch crossing to get a video like SenkoLKE requested, but after waiting about 2 hours, I left. However, just nearing the I-40 Exit 146 off-ramp, I had my scanner with me and a locomotive came on and said it was at Milepost 12. This crossing is at Milepost 4.3. Since the train was probably going to wait and rest by the Double A Ranch crossing, I instead went here, and sure enough...
The train got here. The crossing also changed once again. All 12"x20" lights are now L.E.D. The train only lasted for about 1 minute 45 seconds.
When the crossing first started out, there were some problems with the signals. The 12"x20" lights and the gate lights didn't completely turn off. They were still slightly lit up. Not only that, the far left and right rows of the 12"x20" lights always stayed lit! I think the opposite signal in picture 33 also had the edge lighting problem, but not the fading problem.
The crossing bells are both General Signals Type 1 electronic bells.
Picture 34 is a screenshot of the video I took, and will be available at the end of the year. |
