SenkoLKE emailed ALSTOM about the former GRS lights that are seen in Argentina, and what they were. Below is a PDF file of what their catalog used to look like. Below is what ALSTOM said about their former GRS lights. Also is some information about the lights that spelled out "STOP" in the older days. He then asked for more information, and got a lot more information of what was available back in 1956.

"The signal in your picture was a standard GRS Catalog Item. It originally started as the Type XB Highway Crossing Signal which was created in 1930 and was a valid drawing number until 1959 (for replacement parts only after the 1940's). The Type XB was replaced by an improved Type XD in 1944 and that was valid drawing number until obsoleted and voided in 1974. Types XA, XB, XC, and XD are now available to look at.

The Illuminated STOP sign was also a standard optional feature (among many) for the highway crossing assembly. It was produced from 1930 until about the same timeframe as the Type XD."

Note: This does not tell anything about the plastic GRS 8" and 12" lights that used to be available, that are common to find in Michigan.
